A plan for the long term
The aim is clear or nearly clear skin with a routine you can sustain. Scalp, nails and joints are checked at every visit, because psoriasis can involve all of them.

What is psoriasis?
Psoriasis is an immune condition in which skin cells are made too quickly and pile up as thick, scaly plaques, most often on the elbows, knees, scalp and lower back. It is not an infection and cannot be caught.
On deeper skin the plaques look violet or dark brown rather than red, and clear patches often leave darker or lighter marks for a while. Some people also get nail pitting or joint pain.
Why treat it
Medical reasons
Uncontrolled psoriasis is uncomfortable, can crack and bleed, and in some people is linked to joint disease that needs early treatment. Control also protects the nails and scalp.
The process
From assessment to results
The dermatologist confirms the diagnosis, measures how much skin is involved, and checks nails, scalp and joints.
Matched to the severity:
- Creams and ointments for limited plaques
- Scalp treatments that work with your hair
- Phototherapy courses for wider disease
- Tablets where creams and light are not enough
Plaques thin over four to eight weeks. Phototherapy runs two or three times a week for several weeks.
Clear or nearly clear skin for most people, with reviews to keep it that way and to catch any flare early.

Who treats you
Your dermatologist
Can psoriasis be cured?
No treatment cures it, but it can be controlled so well that the skin stays clear for long periods.
Is it contagious?
No. It is an immune condition, not an infection.
What makes it flare?
Stress, throat infections, some medicines, alcohol, smoking and skin injury. We go through these with you.
Will the marks fade after the plaques clear?
Yes, usually over a few months. Sun protection helps.
Do you offer phototherapy?
Yes, in the clinic, as a course of sessions planned by the dermatologist.
